Hi!
I have been given the task of "recreating" this "sea of binary code". What would be the best technique in Cheetah 5.x? I could do it manually, but it would take quite some time. Any ideas and/or input would be great! Thanks in advance, Tom - Norway |

Hi.
Well thatīs quite a task. To make it look like a "wavy carpet" is fairly easy - but the randomness in your image means lot of extra work - and - many many polygons. My little scene is about already 500k |

Thanks for your input Frank. It seems like a tough task. I have had indications that maybe the two or three first lines are "random" and the rest are Photoshop...?
Could be if one look at the depth and alignments of the lines in the back. Thanks again, Tom - Norway |

i would use the array tool for this.
start with simple cubes and a 50x1x50 or so matrix and tweak all the values to get familiar with its functions. (type in values, hit apply, look, undo, change values, apply, ...). then you could make one plane with ones and one with zeros at the same location, all numbers slightly randomly shifted in all six directions. overlapping items in the foreground could be manually selected with group select and moved apart. the wave can be produced then with a 90° rotated bend modifier (or two). for less polys to handle you could do it with the array modifier as well, but here i would use say 10 arrays with 20x20 zeros and same with the ones, then move each array till it looks random, all would need similar bend modifiers... i have currently no working machine with free space so i cannot produce a sample file or screenshots, sorry. - archie |

Thank!
I will check it out. Im struggling to chose between Strata 3D and Cheetah for this task. We have purchased a license for both apps. Coming from Cinema 4D I guess Cheetah would be the obvious choice? Thanks, Tom - Norway Quote:

I'd run text along a path, make a few variations for apparent randomness. Then i'd make a version with only the tops of the letters from the ones further back to reduce the poly count.
Strata or C3D will work. Strata supports instances iirc which may be the deciding factor. Master List of C3D Tutorials | Master List of Scripts (please post omissions to the threads) |

I'd clone the 1 and the 0 separately. When using the Clone tool, you can specify the number of items, and the randomness in the location/scale/rotation on a given axis. After that, I'd join the cloned 1s and 0s so that they become one polygon object. Make sure to texture/add material/UV map before cloning. Then, once you have them all together, apply one Bend modifier, or a couple, if needed (like Archie mentions). I think that might work. Worth a try.
